Freebie Fridays

Happy Friday!

Yet another work week down and the weekend is about to start. I think that's cause for a little celebration, don't you?

And what better way to celebrate than with free stuff? That's right - not a giveaway where only one or a few people get something for free, but a giveaway where everyone gets something for free!

As you may or may not know, I'm a graphic designer, and I love it. But more than that, I'm an artist. Ever since I could hold a crayon in my little fist I've loved to draw. At the ripe old age of 13 I knew what I wanted to do the rest of my life. I wanted to create art - but on the computer. I love computers, and I love art. Put the two together, and you get graphic design. Makes sense, no?

Anyhow, I work full-time as a graphic designer, and do freelance work on the side via Magruder Designs. While I enjoy what I do, I don't always feel that I'm free to be completely creative and design what I want to design. I'm not complaining now - I do really enjoy helping other people out, and designing graphics to suit their needs. I'm always up for a good challenge. No, no, what I'm saying is I have all this extra creativity bottled up just waiting to come to life in whatever form my creative mind makes.

I started thinking about ways to put this extra creativity to good use, because I rarely design/create something unless I have a reason to. I need motivation. What or who could I possibly design for? Why, you, my wonderful readers.

And honestly, home decor and graphic design really go hand-in-hand. There are countless ways to use graphic design in the home, office, events, mail centers, etc. The possibilities are endless! From framing printouts to scrapbooking, diy invitations to labels, even patterns for your own blog or desktop backgrounds - there is practically no limit to the uses you can put a great design to.

So I have created a new column for This Fresh Fossil called Freebie Fridays, where every Friday there will be a new original piece of artwork for you, or a great giveaway! Yup, I'm as excited about this new series as you are.

But first - what kind of stuff would you like to receive for free? I'll be feeling a bit silly if you were seriously craving invitiations but I kept designing patterns and scrapbooking art, and so nobody really used or appreciated the designs I had created. So think about what you would LOVE to have (for free) and what you would put to good use. Pretty please take the quick survey below, and then let me know what else you're thinking in the comments section!

(Psst... wanting a free greeting card right now? Head on over to check out the first of many-to-come freebie downloads here.)

(Oh, and while all my work is custom, if you'd like something more personalized, like a blog header, logo, photo manipulation, etc, please feel free to contact me to discuss your project and custom pricing. Thanks!)

  2. I could always use help with a logo/button for my blog! I know that's too much, but any helpful tidbits on a great way to make it look balanced/pop with just the right amount of color, etc. would be helpful. I thought picking out paint for the house was hard, but it turns out blog colors are harder! :)
